Fees:

The price may vary depending on time, location and number of appointments required.

Bookings should be made by telephone or email. Consultations are strictly by appointment only. A minimum of 24 hours notice must be given for a cancellation.

To arrange a booking please phone the appropriate clinic. Consultations are seen within a clinical setting . In exceptional cases a home visit may be arranged. Alternatively you can email with any booking enquiries to info@mariocaruana.com.

Programs:

Weight Loss
Objective: To achieve a weight loss of at least 0.5-1kg each week by incorporating a sound, healthy eating plan, behaviour modification and exercise as necessary. Issues addressed include portion control, carbohydrate / protein / fat balance, meal timing, eating out, optimal nutrient intake, supplements and behaviour modification.

Weight Gain
Objective: To achieve a slow, steady weight gain of at least 1-2kg each month by incorporating an eating plan, behaviour modification and exercise as necessary. Issues addressed include meeting protein and calorie needs, making higher calorie, but healthy, food choices, meal and snack timing, eating out, and optimal nutrient intake.

Cholesterol Lowering & Prevention of Early Heart Disease                                                                                            
Objective: To incorporate dietary and supplement strategies to achieve and maintain a healthy cholesterol profile, homocysteine level, and blood pressure. Issues addressed include amount and type of dietary fat, soy protein, fibre, vitamin and mineral supplements, eating out guidelines.

Diabetes Management
Objective: To control blood sugar levels in Type 1& 2 diabetes by learning about the management of diabetes and incorporating an eating plan that is tailored to your lifestyle and medication. Meal planning, nutrition and diabetes education. Issues addressed vary depending on needs but can include carbohydrate counting, label reading, eating out, alcohol and exercise.

Gastrointestinal Disorders                                                                                                                                                
Objective: To lessen the frequency of flare-ups and severity of your symptoms by enhancing bowel motility and/or integrity of bowel lining and managing food sensitivities. Special areas addressed may include gluten or wheat-free foods, dietary fat, fish oils, fibre, probiotic foods, food sensitivities and nutrition and herbal supplements.

Osteoporosis Management & Prevention
Objective: To achieve peak bone mass in clients under 30, to minimize age related bone loss after 30, and to promote optimal bone health through implementation of a dietary and nutrition supplement plan. Special issues covered include meeting requirements for soy protein, calcium, vitamin D, magnesium. Factors that cause calcium excretion will be discussed.

Pregnancy
Objective: To ensure you receive adequate nutrients for the increased needs that occur during pregnancy. To achieve a steady and appropriate rate of weight gain. Topics addressed include safe vitamin/mineral supplements, managing constipation, use of caffeine and alcohol, dealing with morning sickness, and nutrition needs for breastfeeding.

Sports Nutrition
Objective: To enhance performance of endurance sports or strength training by ensuring optimal intake of all nutrients, including ergogenic aids. To promote loss of body fat and increase in muscle mass when appropriate. Issues addressed include protein requirements, meal timing, recovery foods, and the use of supplements.

Vegetarianism
Objective: To follow an eating plan that ensures optimal nutrient intake and prevents common deficiencies that can be associated with a vegetarian diet. Special issues covered include how to meet requirements for protein, vitamins B12 and D, calcium and iron through dietary strategies and supplements. Recipes and quick meal ideas also given.
